The Kincardine & District Lions were chartered in June 1974, being sponsored by the Tiverton and District Lions Club. Membership varies with generally 60 members including both men and women with one Charter member still active within the club – Larry Bannerman. Since its Charter we estimate the Club’s investment in the community to be over two million dollars. The club has been and is still very active within the community.
Donations have been made, and continue to be made, to projects within the community that are for the betterment of the community. These include; the Library, Hospital, Medical Clinic, Women’s House of Bruce County, Minor Sports, Agricultural Society, Food Bank and other local organizations.
Other donations are made to numerous national and international charitable organizations; for example; Lions Clubs International Foundation, M.S., C.N.I.B., Heart & Stroke, Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Society, Canadian Diabetes Association, Guide Dog school, Lions Foundation for Disaster Relief, Lions projects and charities.
Current fundraising is mainly from BBQ, Chair and Refrigeration Trailer rentals, sales of food & beverages, Canada Day BBQ, Annual Dinner Draw, Giant Yard Sale, manpower support of Lighthouse Blues Festival, Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band Annual Gathering of the Bands and other community events.
